Brief & Tasks
You will carry out a precedent studies on indigenous architectrure --- a selected buildings that was built by using sustainable materials of bamboo and timber.

And based on the precedent studies, we are required to prepare an 'Analytique' -- i.e. one A2-sized drawing in landscape or potrait format (rendered in 2B-6B or/and charcoal pencils only) illustrating the design concepts, important architectural features and other relevant details of the precedent studies. The drawing should be creatively composed in a professional manners -- no 'cut and paste' is allowed. The drawing should be permanently fixed on a corrugated cardboard with a 25mm margins around it.
SHARMA SPRINGS RESIDENCES
Located in Sibang Gede, Bali, Indonesia. Sharma Springs Residence is a residential buuilding with a crowning glory which is designed and created by IBUKU. It is the tallest structure to be built based on bamboo, throughout Bali. The building was initailly built for a rich family, Sharma Family of Bali. But soon it became a resort for public to stay.

The Sharma Family's intention was to have a jungle-escape fantasy with a 6-level design. The whole structure took 750 square meters and is equipped with 4 bedrooms. Overlooking the Ayung river valley, built almost entirely of bamboo. The entry to the house is via a dramatic tunnel-bridge that brings you directly to the open air living, dining, and kitchen spaces on the 4th level.
ARCHITECT
The architects team behind this structure is IBUKU architecture team. Leading by Elora Hardy, the founder and also the creative director of IBUKU. Except Sharma Springs Residence, her team also created a various famous buildings. Such as Green Village Residentoial Series Houses (tower House, Minang Guest House and Yurt House) and also Gianyar Garage. All these are the masterpieces made by Elora Hardy and her IBUKU team. She reconnected with the culture and landscape that she loves and today continues to cultivate Balinese artisans alongside innovative designers and architects with the goal of making Bali a global center for sustainable design and bringing those designs to the rest of the world.

Sharma Springs Residency
The focus of the project is the spiral formed skylight roof which opening above the staircase in the middle. The complexity of the skylight roof is protraits into a spiral shape which eventually form an opening in the middle.

The section of the building soon become the second element I emphasized on. The construction features by using bamboos really astonished me and it is implemented in order to support the enormous weight of the building. The building itself with all the bamboos tied together to form up pillars and columns is effective in carrying the structure of the building.

Meanwhile, the plan drawing is the third emphasized element. The implementation of the lotus shape which inspired by lotus flower shows such beauty of the nature. Lotus also represents Asian Culture and Buddhism. In the believe of buddhism, every person has the potential to become perfect and enlightened, and it is just a matter of time until each human reaches the light. Just like a lotus flower, even it is grow underneath mud and away fom the sun. But soon when it grows, it becomes the most beautiful flower and groom gloriously.
